What we know so far
Petzl has issued a safety alert for its canyoning descender PIRANA. Users have reported cases of unintended blocking of the rope during descending.
This could lead to potentially dangerous situations, when the person is stuck in a waterfall or under water.
As a response to the incidents, Petzl has updated the user manual. The manual now includes 2 variants of safer descent, either by passing the rope over the friction spur or by placing the hand behind the device to prevent the rope from being stuck accidentally in the locking slot.
Affected product models
